How Macular Degeneration Affects Your Vision

How Macular Degeneration Affects Your Vision

Macular degeneration is a condition that affects the central part of the retina, called the macula. This can cause blurriness or distortion in your central vision, making it difficult to read, recognize faces, or perform other tasks that require detailed vision. In some cases, macular degeneration can progress to complete loss of central vision.

This 3d animation describes macular degeneration, a retinal disease that causes changes in central vision. Images which were once clear may appear blurred or even dark spots may appear. Straight lines may become distorted or curved and colors may appear less vivid or darker.

The  two types of AMD are wet macular degeneration & dry macular degeneration. The main difference between them is dry macular degeneration is the more common type of eye disease and does less damage to your vision while wet macular degeneration can result in serious vision loss or resulting in being blind.

The eyes work together. When one eye loses sight, it may not be noticed because the other eye is
still able to see. Each eye must be tested on its own to identify changes in vision. Talk to your ophthalmologist about the benefits and risks of anti-VEGF medication to learn more.
